Do you know your worth? Are you selling yourself short?

Is There a Number Greater Than 100?

An uneducated street vendor was in need of a large sum of money. He decided to sell a beautiful carpet he had inherited from his grandfather. The next morning he put the carpet onto his cart with a 100 Dinar price tag, and found his usual place in the market. The first passerby bought the carpet immediately. Proud of himself for achieving his aim so quickly, the vendor went home early. On the way he bragged about his remarkable success and his 100 Dinar. A friend asked him why he sold such an exquisite carpet so cheap, adding that it was worth so much more than that. Somewhat confused, the vendor inquired, “Is there a number greater than 100?”

Self Image & The Media

Peter Gibbon, a Harvard researcher, reports that for every 100 Americans there are 81 television sets and that a typical household will have the television on for six hours a day. What are the dominant images of human behavior and motivation portrayed on TV and by newspapers that seem incapable of admiring anyone or anything? Gibbon claims “the media creates the impression that sleaze is everywhere, that nothing is sacred, that no one is noble, and that there are no heroes.” No longer are actors, musicians and supermodels just entertainers, they are treated like “philosopher-kings, telling us how to live.”

5 universal laws of joy
  1. We can never, ever change any one else.
  2. We can recognize, understand and override our own reactive patterns.
  3. When we change ourselves, we will influence the situations in our lives.
  4. Every individual has an enormous potential for good.
  5. If we work for a larger good (fairness, mutual respect, etc.) we are happier and more effective than when we just react or focus on what we don't like or want.
