My Philosophy

I believe that the more we understand ourselves, our purpose, and the world around us, the greater our sense of well being and satisfaction no matter how challenging our circumstances. The more we are able to overcome negative thoughts, emotions and actions, and are able to embody our higher ideals, the more integrity and authenticity we experience.
Joy

Though difficult to hear, I believe that deep within the human heart there is a natural wisdom which can guide us toward what is good for ourselves, our relationships, and our world. Beneath the shadows of ego, history and common misperceptions lies an inner knowing that can lead us to wise choices that are associated with mental and spiritual health. Finding this inner source of guidance and strength is called “therapy” by some, and the “hero’s journey” by others.

I call it the Heart Journey. As we take this inner journey, we free ourselves into greater honesty, trustworthiness, compassion and many other desirable qualities. The fruits of this journey are what the greatest teachers of humanity have called us to throughout time.

Mentally and spiritually healthy people seek to live a healthy lifestyle based on principles such as truthfulness, responsibility, respect. Mentally and spiritually healthy people are able to love and to be loved, to be grateful, to be kind, and to ask for – and to work for – what they need. They are able to be peaceful when alone, and to enjoy the company of others.

In the past, wise people guided others on this journey to health and wholeness. In today’s world, this role is often assumed by counselors, coaches and therapists. The success of this journey can be enhanced by various therapeutic techniques used in the right way and at the right moment by a skilled life guide.

As I understand it, a therapist or counselor’s job is to provide information, strategies and support that enable individuals to create more authentic and satisfying lives. I have been trained in many useful approaches for overcoming negativity, habitual behaviors, connecting to one’s own deep nature, and for balancing the body, mind, emotions, and soul. For over 25 years, I have been helping others make their lives more meaningful, purposeful and satisfying.

5 universal laws of joy
  1. We can never, ever change any one else.
  2. We can recognize, understand and override our own reactive patterns.
  3. When we change ourselves, we will influence the situations in our lives.
  4. Every individual has an enormous potential for good.
  5. If we work for a larger good (fairness, mutual respect, etc.) we are happier and more effective than when we just react or focus on what we don't like or want.
